Draft Four: Magazine

Instead of stereotypical background I decided to add a background to the magazine. The background that I chose is a 'hit board' that appears in my trailer. By putting this here it one anchors the genre - Psychological Thriller - well. It also lets the audience see the antagonist and because this appears in the trailer its a sense of synergy between all three platforms (magazine, poster and trailer).  By putting this background it also ties the poster together.

Protagonist image changed (film poster draft)

For this draft I contributed by changing the image so we can a different image from the magazine cover and this image is more effective for the poster due to the cinematography. My group and I took a medium close up image of our actor so we can have a clear image of his facial expression because while doing our primary research we saw a lot of posters with medium close ups such as the hannibal rising poster.
Furthermore I added 2 of the actors/actress names as well. I didn't add a age certificate because while analysising posters during my research I saw that many posters didn't have one so I didn't see it as a main poster convention, due to that I didn't add one.
In addition with the image our actor's image automatically makes a connection with the target audience due to the position of my characters eyes making an instant eye contact with the audience which can force the target audience to be attracted to this poster.
The image was cropped out by using the tool polygonal lasso tool.

Poster image

This is the mage that my group will be using for the poster, the cinematography used for this image is medium close up and it automatically allows the audience to be engaged with the poster because of the eye contact that our main actor gives in the poster. In addition the body language of our actor allows the media conventions to be placed around in a tidy, presented manner as well as the body language of the hand pointing forward also forces the audience to engage because it gives this thought that he's pointing at the person reading, grabbing their attention.

Trailer note

These were some of the screenshots of the bedroom scene for our trailer. These shots did not go well on the day and was just too dark with the lack of lighting which really shown poor quality. These were taken within our best interest, however as shown above these parts were just not good enough to place within our trailer and thus we had to remove them to re-shoot this scene again or change the location to a better environment.

Draft 2 Poster

I changed the font to match the synergy of the magazine and trailer font so the audience knows that it's all apart of the same brand. Even when the audience views it individually they still see know that its still connected.
I used guidelines and rulers to get the right proxemics for further things i'm going to add.

Draft Three: Magazine

As I said before, this independent magazines don’t usually have conventions sell lines. However, I got typical independent stars and added their names to the magazine in a list.  Which matches the conventional  look of an independent magazine. It also gives a more authentic look for my magazine making it look more realistic by having 'individualists stars' on the side.

Draft 1 Poster

This is draft one of my poster, its very naturalistic but I just wanted to show my layout of the poster. I wanted the cover to be a picture that is in the movie, I have Crystal Peak Productions in the corner so the audience know the production name.

Second Early Draft -

This is a second early draft that I have, I added music to the trailer edits to see how that works and weather that can be improved or not.  This edit is also way to long for a teaser trailer so I am looking to cut that in future edits.

Changed background, font and colour scheme (Magazine draft)

Construction of Poster

During the development of our poster I created a template for a starting point and something I can add towards. I searched on Google for a dark background and edit/cut the parts I needed to look more appropriate. I like the lighting it naturally gave and the bottom part looks perfects to place our actor. After the background was complete I wanted to layout the main

Very Early Edit Draft One

This was our first movie edit, I had just put the clips together and hadn't really done much to it. It is no where near complete we are still looking at the order of shots we are going to do, and weather it works or not. Its a good beginning platform for our group and me as an editor.

Use of the polygonal lasso tool

The polygonal lasso tool was used to crop the background out so I can use a different background for the protagonist. Using a rubber will make the image look more untidy and using the polygonal lasso tool will have a better effect on the magazine cover.

Prop and Costume.

With sociological thriller films, all the characters used in the film have typically normal clothing and even though our character is the main protagonist we want the audience to know that he is just 'normal'. So we wanted to dress him in that fashion. This is also what makes sociological thrillers so scary and effective because the main characters usually look exactly like everyday people, so it makes the audience put themselves in the protagonists shoes and wonder if that could happen to them.
We have chosen jeans and a black shirt nothing that stands out to much.  That will connote to the audience that he doesn't want to stand out of the crowd, he has nothing that attracts to much attention he wants to blend in. This is a very conventional outfit for a young teenage boy/young adult it also helps the audience relate to him more because he dresses like anyone would.
